There is a great saying, “If it’s important enough, you’ll find a way. If it’s not, you’ll find an excuse.”

We all make excuses from time to time and may not always realize it when doing so. Making excuses for ‘not-so-good behavior,’ for canceling plans, or for not following through on goals are some common examples. And, sometimes — admit it! — it feels good to have somebody to blame.

It can help you to feel better about yourself at that moment in time but when that moment passes, you see that making excuses or blaming others is a waste of time and energy. It can let ourselves and others down, make us lazy and weak and provide reasons to lower expectations in many areas of life.

It can also be a time-waster. Learning to reduce, and eventually eliminate, excuses provides more time to focus energy in other areas. Imagine how much energy you could channel toward overcoming obstacles and reaching your goals if you stopped saying "I can't because..." or "I would if…" or the famous “I’ll try.” Together, we can learn to identify when and why we make excuses, stop ourselves from doing it and be intentional to follow through on our word and goals. This will produce incredible results in both personal and professional life.

Let go of excuses and begin living a more focused, productive, and abundant life!
